Are you seeking to join a band, wind orchestra or music ensemble in Bexhill, Cooden, Little Common or Battle?
Introducing the Cooden Supper Wacky band - Cooden Beach Wind Orchestra par excellence. We are a friendly informal group of 30 players who rehearse on Thursday evenings from 8.30pm in the hall at the Cooden Beach Tennis Club on Withyham Road near the railway station. After a fast paced but fun practise we gather in the excellent Club Bar which is a good informal social opportunity to meet your fellow musicians and talk music (etc)!
All standards of play welcome: we simply ask that you feel comfortable sight reading new scores or just having a go. We play a wide range of music from pop to musical themes - something for everyone and requests are always welcome! We welcome new players! We have a relaxed informal style and enjoy music making in a serene atmosphere ;)
If you are seeking to join a band, wind orchestra or music ensemble in Bexhill, Cooden, Little Common or Battle then we hope you will consider us. Simply arrive at our rehearsal room on any Thursday evening, or contact Paul Higgins for more information and exact location details if you prefer. There's also a map at http://cbwo.clubbz.com or search for Cooden Tennis Club on Google maps.
At present, during 2011, we are practising a new repertoire of music with one new piece being introduced each week in order to expand our potential for performance. We can offer both full ensemble and various smaller groups from trios to octet arrangements for a tasteful balance of harmony! We know you'll fall in love with our groovy sounds! Why not join us one evening and listen in?
We are looking forward to a number of Friends & Family evenings of food, drink and a relaxed informal atmosphere; we are booked for the Bexhill Festival of Music in June, and we are also booked for Robertsbridge beer & music festival in mid July. We enjoy playing in Markwick Terrace Gardens in St Leonards on Sea and we love to play for charity dinner parties too! Good company and great music from the hottest two step band in Cooden!
If you play flute, piccolo, oboe, cor anglais, clarinet, bass clarinet, bassoon, tuba, bass, euphonium, trombone, french horn, tenor horn, baritone, cornet, trumpet, saxophone or any other instrument you feel may be relevant and are seeking to join a band, wind orchestra, or any music ensemble in Bexhill, Cooden Beach, Little Common, or Battle then do please consider joining us! We are sure you will enjoy both the rehearsal session and the informal social aspects of our band!
Contact Paul Higgins for more details or join us on Thursday evenings in the hall at Cooden Beach tennis club from 8.30pm, on Withyham Road, Cooden, Bexhill on Sea, East Sussex. Your music is our music, and we like a challenge :)
Tonight we are warming up on Yesterday and having a practise on Miller Magic - we will continue Georgia On My Mind from last week and tonight's new piece is a big band swing piece with solos called Blues For Mr B!
ReplyDeleteLook forward to seeing you all at 8.30.
Louise, conductor
I'd just like to say how pleased I was with our exciting practise this week and I hope you all left 'buzzin' as much as I did. We'll leave my new piece Mr B for another week yet, and I have one change of plan:
ReplyDeleteI want to ask for the parts to Miller Magic so I can really study this piece (our most challenging) at home so as to 'get inside' the arrangement - I'll wheel it out again in about 4 weeks' time.
Meanwhile we'll keep on with the 1 new piece a week idea, and I have a fun surprise piece to warm up next time called "I Wish I Knew" so keep on your toes!
Lou :)
Do you really mean "supper," and does that mean you will be providing Horlicks and digestive biscuits?
ReplyDeleteJoe
Yes you can have a Cooden supper at any of our rehearsals!
ReplyDeletePlease note we have members travel from Hastings, Eastbourne & Peacehaven,, it's worth it!
See you all Thursday week (I am away next week)
Paul
You cannot be a fully fledged member of the band until you have partaken of a "Cooden Supper" - for full details and tips on its consumption ask Brian at the bar
ReplyDeleteI best have my 'cooden supper' next week than as im still yet to have it!
ReplyDeleteBrian!! Can i place a 'cooden supper' order for next week!
:O)
Ugh I'll just plump for Cooden Soup(er Trouper)..
ReplyDeleteI will add some video resources below each week to get you in the mood ;)
ReplyDeleteBoogie on!
We played 10 pieces this week - excellent! Hope you enjoyed everything - lots of favourable comments about Dr Who (..not..) haha!
ReplyDeleteNice to have a big bold bass section!
Main Title is in the bag and Yesterday is good. Generally it's just dynamics (EXAGGERATE!) and tempo need fixing. Listen to all you can for style and speed and details like whether to slur or staccato.. Great rapid improvement all round - can't wait for the new Mancini Magic - woohoo! :D
Hi all,
ReplyDeleteThere's a really good Miller Magic piece on youtube played by BAE Systems Brass Band. They use the same arrangement as us, so you can make out the different parts. :)
The links below, see you next Thursday, Johnny!

ReplyDeleteWe are arranging to do some swaps with Bodiam band to increase our music supply..look out for lots of exciting new pieces in the weeks ahead - there'll even be actual clarinet parts! ;)
De La Warr Pavillion, Sunday 26th June at 6pm on the terrace could be our finest hour. We can do this no problem, lets show Bexhill what were made off!!!
ReplyDeletePaul
Rather! We'll be ready to wow the audience with Miller Magic, Abba, Mancini and Georgia etc plus our best old faves! Awesome! We'll have a ton of music ready by June.
ReplyDeleteHm, are you playing your scale of the day??
We should play Irish Stew tonight being St Patricks Day to be sure! Paul
ReplyDeleteIt was sunny today, Yipee! Guess who I am look for the red nose & win a prize!!!

Abba on youtube recommended by Alastair Check out this link! Thanks everyone, what a great weekend! Lots of new pieces for May and of course we will be putting our De La Warr program together - my plan is 20 mins band followed by 10 mins quartet/woodwinds times 4!
ReplyDeleteWatch out for wacky woolly mammoths too! :D
As well as causing earthquakes in New Zealand and Japan, it is a lesser known fact that buried- -alive wacky woolly mammoths also produce fragrantly aspirated respiritory tornadoes (F.A.R,T.S) in isolated areas - such as the back row of Wind Band performances in Bexhill on Sea and St Leonards on Sea !
ReplyDeleteYes I have also noticed this very common phenominum, but to correct you, because of the time it takes for the F.A.R.T.S To reach the surface the full name is overt logistically diverted fragrantly aspirated respiritory tornadoes or O.L.D.F.A.R.T.S !
ReplyDeleteWoolly Mammoths are now kindly donating their tusk ivory to help restore depleted elephant population. Viewing here - kindness itself. Permafrost temperatures rising allows more prehistoric ivory finds - anyone fancy trekking to Siberia?
ReplyDeleteSeems like a money spinner any body got a spare
ReplyDeleteO.L.D.F.A.R.T. detection meter!
Welcome to Cooden Wacky o.l.d.f.a.r.t.s (Temperance) Brigade :)
ReplyDeleteI a fellow band member would like to know more about the below:
ReplyDeleteThe music lesson week six,
DOING IT IN 7 POSITIONS!!
:o)
Well you should ask a trombonist to demonstrate!
ReplyDeleteI had a Cooden Supper last night and it were lovely! I wonder if my brussel plants will grow?
ReplyDeleteHaving studied the other CBWO acronyms I vote we change our name to the "Closing Base Wedge Osteotomy" ...... how cool is that ! Alastair and Sarah a translation please....
ReplyDeleteThere's a new video bar - click on a video image then scroll back to the top to watch it - opens in a pop screen. Golly Moses gotta practice for 26th ;)
ReplyDeletePractice Practice Practice!!! You will be perfect.......... oops I'm away for 2 weeks, I'll tell you what I'll hum a tune a day in between drinks Hic! I'll be alright on the night. Have fun Paul.
ReplyDeleteAye aye, we're relying on you! I'm practicing all the trumpet parts and writing a few last parts to get those bassoon lines heard!! Have a great week everyone! It's going to be a hectic summer B)
